Naked woman lying on her back (Lying Nude) - Giclee Print by Edgar Degas

12” x 9” - Giclee Print

About the Artist / Artwork

The romance of the ballet is poignantly captured by French artist Edgar Degas (1834-1917). A keen observer, Degas preferred to be called a Realist, although his style is related to that of Impressionists. His innovative composition, skillful drawing, and perceptive portrayal of movement is uniquely his own. Degas also depicted social settings such as racecourses, cafes, and music halls. A profound influence on later artists, Picasso and Toulouse-Lautrec, Degas made sketches from living models to capture their spontaneity, later completing the paintings in the studio.

This artwork is the officially approved image from Paris’s Musée du Louvre as part of the French Museum Collection (RMN). This collection, representing artwork from over 400 top European museums and private sources, honors the very best of the worlds curated original art by making these works available for the first time as museum-approved, high-quality giclee prints and canvas reproductions that can be personalized to suit any decorating style and vision.
This Giclee Print delivers a vivid image with maximum color accuracy and exceptional resolution. The standard for museums and galleries around the world, Giclee (French for “to spray”) is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto the papers surface. With the great degree of detail and smooth transitions of color gradients, Giclee prints appear much more realistic than other reproduction prints. The high-quality paper (235 gsm) is acid free with a smooth surface.

Shunning the Impressionists’ fascination with natural light and painting outdoors, Edgar Degas (1834-1917) preferred to be called a Realist, implementing daring compositional innovations that broke from traditionally balanced arrangements, profoundly influencing later artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso.
